Kucherenko hinted at the involvement of Ukrenergo’s ex-management in the disruption of the construction of energy facilities protection

MP Oleksiy Kucherenko has reported a critical situation at one of Ukraine’s power substations, which has been hit by drones for the second time in the last month. According to him, a transformer worth about $7 million was put out of commission, and the region was left without electricity, in fact, due to the lack of promised protection of such facilities. He posted this on his Facebook page, reports [Kommersant].

The politician emphasized that the facility was supposed to be protected by a concrete “sarcophagus” of the second level of defense and an anti-drone net, but in fact the substation was covered only by gabions with sand, which do not protect against attacks.

Kucherenko claims that the construction of the protective infrastructure began in the summer of 2023, but in two years the work has not even been halfway done.

During this time, he said, the completion date was postponed eight times, contractors were changed three times, and significant advances have already been “absorbed” by officials. Also, according to the MP, the estimate has been repeatedly increased.

“This is due to the ignorance and indifference of very specific officials of a state-owned company. Its former head – a very handsome and brio-like master of PR, his specialized deputies, who mastered this powerful cash flow and were supposed to control it,” he said, probably hinting at Ukrenergo and its former head Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.

According to Kucherenko, it was the irresponsibility of officials that later caused intrigues and attempts at “coups in the company” and a backroom struggle to preserve old schemes.

“This is the real reason for the manipulations and attempted “coups” in one state-owned company, the adventurous behavior of some members of the supervisory board – foreign and one of our own, the backroom intrigues and desperate convulsions of the former management to preserve their schemes and secrets.
…Meanwhile, people are sitting without electricity, and it looks like it will be for a long time,” he added.

The MP supported the position of the Ministry of Energy on restoring order in Ukrenergo (judging by the text – ed.), but stressed that this is not enough:

“Dismissal and imprisonment. I see no other option.”

As written by [Kommersant], on Friday, September 26, it became known that the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo decided to dismiss Vitaliy Zaichenko and the entire board of the company, except for Oleksiy Brekht. He was supposed to be acting CEO.

Prior to the dismissal notice, Zaichenko had been in office for only three months, and the decision to dismiss him was made spontaneously – during an online meeting of the Supervisory Board and without explanation.

Later, it became known that the Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo and members of the company’s Board had allegedly reached an agreement, and Vitaliy Zaichenko remained in office.
