Kyiv is not alone: emergency power cuts are in effect in a number of regions
20 January 09:42
On the morning of January 20, emergency power cuts were introduced in some regions of Ukraine following an attack by the Russian Federation. The previously published power cut schedules are currently not in effect.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Ukrenergo and local power companies.
Ukrenergo
Due to the difficult situation in the power system caused by the consequences of Russian shelling, emergency power cuts have been introduced in several regions of Ukraine,” the company said.
Ukrenergo emphasized that in regions where emergency power cuts have been implemented, the previously published schedules are currently not in effect. Emergency power cuts will be canceled once the situation in the power grid stabilizes.
Kyiv and Kyiv region
Due to the difficult situation in the energy sector, emergency power cuts have been introduced in the capital and the region.
As previously explained by YASNO CEO Serhiy Kovalenko, Kyiv is currently operating in emergency blackout mode: approximately three hours with power and up to ten hours without, although the situation varies depending on the area.
According to Brovary Mayor Ihor Sapozhko, emergency power cuts have been introduced in the Brovary and Boryspil districts. The timing of the restoration is currently unknown, but further information will be provided as it becomes available.
Odesa region
The schedules apply only to residents of the region and only where the state of the network allows.
Odessa, part of the Odessa district, and some district centers in Odessa region are experiencing emergency power cuts.
Sumy region
At 07:14, emergency power cuts were introduced in the region for 10 groups of consumers. This order was given by NEC Ukrenergo.
Sumyoblenergo explained that the reason for this step was damage to the power system as a result of an attack by the Russian army.
Kharkiv region
In Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, emergency power outage schedules have been implemented to stabilize the situation in the power grid. At the same time, hourly power outage schedules continue to be in effect.
Shelling of Ukraine on January 20
On the night of January 20, Russia launched a massive missile and drone strike on Kyiv and a number of other Ukrainian cities, including Rivne, Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa, as well as important energy centers.
Throughout the night, the enemy used ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones, and in the early morning, it launched cruise missiles.
In Kyiv, after the combined Russian shelling, 5,635 high-rise buildings remain without heat, and the entire left bank of the capital is without water.
