China has opened its market to Ukrainian peas

Following the results of an audit, China has opened its market to imports of Ukrainian peas. This was reported by the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the report, the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection received a letter from the Ukrainian Embassy in China regarding the review by the Animal and Plant Quarantine Department of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China of technical and video materials concerning the operating conditions of enterprises and the capacity to conduct laboratory tests for the purpose of exporting Ukrainian peas.
“The need for such an audit is stipulated by the requirements of the protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of peas from Ukraine to China. Based on the results of the Chinese side’s review of the technical and video materials, Ukraine has been granted permission to export peas to China,” the report states.
Currently, the General Administration of Customs of the PRC has registered two Ukrainian enterprises engaged in the storage and processing of peas that participated in the audit and from which, in accordance with the protocol, the export of peas from Ukraine to China may be carried out.
“The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection has currently included three business entities in the list of enterprises planning to export peas to the PRC, and four business entities in the list of enterprises growing peas for export to the PRC,” the statement reads.
According to the statement, in order to export Ukrainian peas to China, enterprises engaged in their cultivation, storage, processing, and export must comply with the requirements of the roadmap. This document outlines the key steps for entering the Chinese market.
In the first two months of 2026, China imported 184,000 tons of peas, with Russia accounting for 75% of the supply, according to Russia’s Interfax.
