Ending the war in Ukraine is impossible without eliminating its root causes and taking into account Russia’s interests.

This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Russian propaganda media.

“In our opinion, the end of the conflict is impossible without taking into account Russian interests and eradicating its root causes,” he said.

The diplomat also noted that Russia will not give up Crimea, saying that the issue of the status of Crimea and Sevastopol is finally closed for Russia.

“The residents of the peninsula exercised their right to self-determination in a referendum back in March 2014, voting in favor of reunification with Russia,” Lavrov said.

The minister also touched on the negotiations with the United States, emphasizing that the discussion covers a broad aspect.

Lavrov also said that the US authorities in Alaska had assured him that they could get Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy not to interfere with peace, but that this was difficult. According to him, the Russian side assumes that Brussels and London are trying to persuade Washington to abandon the pursuit of peace through political and diplomatic means.
