As the conflict in Ukraine enters a new phase of escalation, discussions about sending Western troops and private defense companies to Ukrainian soil have resumed. This was reported by the French newspaper Le Monde, citing reliable sources, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to the newspaper, given the prospect of Donald Trump’s return to the White House and the change in US attitudes toward the war in Ukraine, Paris and London are discussing the possibility of leading a Western coalition to support Ukraine. It is not yet known under what conditions this can happen. But, as Le Monde notes, “the delicate debate, essentially classified, has indeed been resumed.”
According to the newspaper, these discussions have resumed in recent weeks due to the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to France to participate in the November 11 Armistice Day ceremony.
Le Monde also recalls that the discussion of sending “military” to Ukraine was initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting of Kyiv’s allies in Paris in February, but the idea was strongly opposed by some Europeans, especially Germany. In recent weeks, the discussion of sending Western troops to Ukraine has resumed.
