Champions League: “Shakhtar hold on for a draw with Bologna

Shakhtar Donetsk have played their first match in the main draw of the UEFA Champions League for the 2014/25 season. “The Miners started with a 0-0 draw with the Italian club Bologna, reports "Komersant Ukrainian"

For the first European Cup match of the season, the Miners’ head coach Marino Pušić chose the following squad: Riznyk in goal, Bondar and Matvienko in the centre of defence, Konoplya and Pedro Henrique on the defensive flanks, Kryskiv, Bondarenko and Sudakov in the middle of the field, Zubkov and Eginalda as wingers, and Sikan as a central striker.

In the 4th minute of the match at the 38,000-capacity Stadio Renato Dall’Arra, Shakhtar midfielder Georgiy Sudakov missed a penalty (goalkeeper).

The Miners will play their next European Cup match against Atalanta in Gelsenkirchen at the Feltins Arena on 2 October.

And next Monday, 23 September, Marino Pušić’s team will play a match of the 7th round of the UPL against Obolon in Lviv (kick-off at 18:00).

In total, 36 teams will play at this stage, playing eight matches each. The top eight clubs will automatically qualify for the play-offs, while the teams ranked ninth to 24th will compete in two-match matches for tickets to the 1/8 finals.
