The Louvre in Paris has announced an increase in admission prices for citizens of countries outside the European Economic Area, i.e. the EU along with Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. This is reported by BFMTV, "Komersant Ukrainian" informs
The world’s most famous museum has announced an increase in ticket prices to 32 euros, which is 10 euros (45%) more than the current price.
The increase applies to travelers from the United States, China, the United Kingdom, and other non-EU countries, such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. Americans make up the largest share of foreign visitors to the Louvre, and Chinese tourists are the third largest.
According to statistics, 70% of the museum’s visitors are foreigners, so the price change will affect most of those who want to get inside.
Why is the Louvre raising prices?
The museum administration explains that additional funds are needed to solve a number of technical and infrastructural problems.
The Louvre plans to receive about 15-20 million euros of additional income per year, which will be used for
- modernization of security systems – the current equipment was recognized as outdated after a high-profile robbery;
- repair and strengthening of individual halls – in one of the rooms, the risk of a ceiling collapse was even recorded, which is why it had to be closed to the public.
What it means for tourists
From now on, planning a trip to Paris will become more expensive for tourists from countries outside the EEA. Despite the rise in price, the Louvre expects high demand to continue, as the museum remains one of the most visited in the world.
