Lviv restaurant where more than 70 people were poisoned was fined ₴48 thousand

The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection has fined Lviv restaurant China Hi (“Chinese Hello”) 48 thousand hryvnias due to mass poisoning of visitors, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
During the inspection, inspectors found violations of hygiene requirements governing the production and circulation of food products. The agency emphasized that compliance with these standards is mandatory, as consumer safety depends on it.
What is known about the poisoning in the Lviv restaurant China Hi (Chinese Hello) and what the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protectionsays:
- In July, more than 70 people, including 9 children, went to the hospital in Lviv with symptoms of an acute intestinal infection after visiting the China Hi restaurant, UNN reports. In two cases, Salmonella enteritidis was confirmed in the laboratory.
- According to the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, epidemiologists found that all the victims had eaten the Singapore Cheesecake dessert. Samples of food (16), surfaces (30), water, etc. were taken.
- The police initiated criminal proceedings under Art. 325 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – “Violation of sanitary norms for the prevention of mass poisoning”.
Violations detected
- During the inspection, the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection found a number of gross violations:
- washing of confectionery, meat and vegetable shops’ equipment in the same room;
- improper storage of equipment (lack of containers with lids);
- bulk products were stored in the basement corridor, and the product neighborhood in the refrigerators was violated;
- lack of inventory labeling and temperature control logs.
Restaurateur’s comment
- The owner of the restaurant, Mykhailo Katsurin, said on social media that all the victims who applied for help would receive payment for their treatment. The restaurant has been temporarily closed, the sanitary service has been called to inspect it, and all the product will be disposed of regardless of the results.
