Chicken meat ranks first in the rating of Ukrainian consumers – expert

Chicken remains the most popular type of meat among Ukrainians. Mykola Babenko, chairman of the Meat Industry Association, said this in an interview with the YouTube channel
“Poultry meat is definitely the first in terms of consumer preferences of Ukrainians,” Babenko said.
He explained that the popularity of chicken is influenced not only by its taste but also by its affordability.
“The price of chicken is lower and this makes this type of meat more in demand,” he added.

“The price has decreased slightly now, but, objectively, it may add another 10-20 percent by the end of the year for all types of meat, except beef,” Babchenko said.
As a reminder, on September 10, a meeting of the Working Group on Meat Industry Development under the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture was held. The meeting focused on analyzing risks and threats to the Ukrainian meat market.

Here is how the price has changed:
- Beef – 361.45 UAH/kg (last year 297.03 UAH/kg)
- Pork – 248.93 UAH/kg (last year 182.74 UAH/kg)
- Chicken fillet – 239.55 UAH/kg (last year 167.36 UAH/kg)
The consumer price index for chicken in September 2025 amounted to 100.84%. Compared to the previous month, average prices increased by 0.84%.
In August 2025, this index was 100.54% compared to the previous month.
In general, over the past two months, chicken fillet has significantly increased in price in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Finance, in early September its average market price was 237 UAH per kilogram, which is 13 UAH more than in July.
Over the year, chicken has risen in price by almost 40%.
It should be noted that fillets are already more expensive than pork. For example, pork shoulder costs an average of UAH 244 per kilogram.
