Maduro declares a state of emergency in Venezuela

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has declared a state of emergency in the country following the US “attack,” AFP reported, "Komersant Ukrainian" said.

Venezuela has declared “military aggression” by the United States, Maduro’s government said in a statement released on January 3.

The strikes were carried out in the capital Caracas and the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira, the statement said, prompting Maduro to declare a state of emergency and call on social and political forces to “activate mobilization plans.”

Explosions occurred in the Venezuelan capital Caracas

Early in the morning of January 3, explosions occurred in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas. According to the AP, AFP and Reuters agencies, low-flying planes were seen flying over the city, and at least one column of smoke was visible. Power was cut off in the southern part of the capital, near a large military base.

According to CNN correspondents, the first explosion was recorded at about 01:50 local time (8:50 Kyiv time). “One of them was so strong that the windows shook,” said correspondent Osmari Hernandez.
