IAEA launches consultations on ceasefire in Zaporizhzhia NPP area

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has begun consultations with Russia and Ukraine on a ceasefire in the area of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant to repair the backup line.
This was reported in a press release on the agency’s website, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
On January 2, as a result of military actions, the last remaining backup power line with a voltage of 330 kV at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was damaged and disconnected. The ZNPP remained completely dependent on the only functioning 750 kV line.
The proposal contains a request to the Russian Federation and Ukraine to agree on the creation of a temporary ceasefire zone in the area approximately 10 kilometers from the open 330 kV substation so that Ukrainian specialists can safely carry out the necessary repair work.
“The IAEA continues to actively engage with both sides to ensure nuclear safety at the plant. We are confident that the Russian Federation and Ukraine will continue to cooperate constructively with us to carry out these necessary repairs and reduce the risk of an accident,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
