IAEA: Ukraine and Russia agree on a truce at ZNPP

Ukraine and Russia agree on a localized ceasefire near the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. This allowed repair work to begin on the power line near the plant.
According to "Komersant Ukrainian", this was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.
“The IAEA team is overseeing the repair work, which is expected to last several days, as part of ongoing efforts to prevent a nuclear accident during a military conflict,” the statement said.
According to him, the work is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to prevent a nuclear accident in a full-scale war.
Grossi thanked both sides for agreeing to a new temporary “window of silence” that allowed the restoration of power transmission between the distribution substations of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the Zaporizhzhia thermal power plant. This is expected to help improve nuclear safety at the facility.
Situation at ZNPP
Zaporizhzhia NPP has been under Russian occupation since March 2022. During this time, Russia has repeatedly tried to legalize control over the facility in violation of international law.
The latest actions of Rostekhnadzor are viewed as another manifestation of nuclear blackmail, which increases threats to the security of the region and the entire world.
At the same time, as part of its peace initiatives, the United States is proposing a format for joint management of the Zaporizhzhia NPP with the participation of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. However, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that this approach is unfair.
