Magnetic storms: what to expect on 18-19 May

The forecast of solar and geomagnetic activity for 18-19 May 2024 was prepared by the Space Weather Prediction Centre of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Kommersant Ukrainian 
informs.
It is pointed out that geomagnetic storms are classified by power level – K-index – from index 2 to 9.
“The higher the K-index, the stronger the storm and its consequences and impact on people and equipment,” the Centre explains.
Therefore, on Saturday, 18 May, and Sunday, 19 May, solar activity with K-index 4 (yellow level) is expected, which corresponds to a strong magnetic disturbance that can affect people’s well-being.
At the same time, the forecast may change as solar activity researchers update their data every three hours.
