Magnetic storm will cover the Earth: scientists warn of several days of disturbances
10 October 20:52
specialists of the British Geological Survey Geomagnetism and Space Weather Prediction Center reported about a new wave of geomagnetic disturbances that will last from October 10 to 13, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
They were caused by the high-speed solar wind, arising from coronal holes in the Sun.
The STORM G1 storm is predicted to have the most noticeable impact, which could affect both technical systems and people’s well-being.
How will it affect people?
Physical health: the storm may exacerbate cardiovascular problems, headaches, weakness and sleep disturbances.
Technology: short-term disruptions in navigation systems and radio communications may occur.
Astronomical effect: in the northern regions of the world increases the likelihood of observing the aurora borealis.
What doctors advise to do?
- sleep at least 8 hours a day;
- drink plenty of clean water;
- choose light meals, avoiding alcohol;
- reduce physical and psychological stress.
Why it happens?
The Sun constantly ejects streams of charged particles – solar wind. When they reach the Earth’s magnetic field, disturbances occur, which scientists record by the G-index (from 1 to 5).
The current storm will be rated G1 (K-index 5) – this is a lower level, but its impact can still be felt.
Recall that such events occur regularly: in September this year, the Earth has already experienced a sudden magnetic storm.
Scientists note that 2024-2025 years – the peak of the solar cycle, so such phenomena will occur more often.
The most powerful storms can affect power systems: historically, it is known that in 1989 a geomagnetic storm led to a large-scale power outage in Canada.
