Large-scale reset in the energy sector: which companies were left without supervisory boards
3 December 23:57
On December 3, the Ukrainian government decided to overhaul the governing bodies of state-owned companies in the energy sector. This was stated by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, who emphasized that the move is part of a broader reform of governance in strategic industries, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Large-scale reset in the energy sector
The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to prematurely terminate the powers of a significant part of the supervisory boards of key energy companies. These are:
- GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC,
- PJSC Centrenergo,
- JSC Ukrainian Distribution Networks,
- JSC Energy Company of Ukraine,
- JSC Market Operator,
- JSC Ukrainian Power Machines.
According to Svyrydenko, the renewal of supervisory boards is necessary to strengthen control, strategic planning and improve the efficiency of management of companies that are critical to the country’s energy security.
New selection system and deadlines
The Cabinet of Ministers also approved a new transparent procedure for selecting candidates for supervisory boards. The new composition of the boards is expected to be formed by the end of December.
The process includes an open competitive selection and the participation of international experts, which should ensure an appropriate level of managerial independence and professionalism.
The reset will also affect the defense sector
In parallel, the government has instructed the Minister of Defense to conduct a similar renewal of supervisory boards at defense industry enterprises.
“Rebooting supervisory boards is an important step, as they are responsible for the strategic development of companies and control over internal processes,” Svyrydenko emphasized.
The Prime Minister also noted that she expects regular reports from the Defense Ministry on the fulfillment of tasks.
A wave of renewal of supervisory boards in state-owned companies
The reform comes amid broader changes in the public sector. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously announced that a large part of the supervisory boards of large energy companies, including Centrenergo, the GTS Operator, and others, would be terminated in December.
In November, the government approved a plan to renew the governing bodies of fuel and energy companies, with clear deadlines for each institution. This was a continuation of the policy of reassembling key state-owned assets.
Reshuffle at Ukroboronprom
Among the latest personnel decisions is the resignation of Tymofiy Mylovanov, a former member of the supervisory board of Energoatom and former advisor to the head of the Defense Ministry Andriy Yermak, from the supervisory board of Ukroboronprom.
