Large-scale power outage: 30% of Kyivstar’s network is without electricity

The CEO of Kyivstar mobile operator Oleksandr Komarov noted that the company has been going through one of the most difficult periods with electricity since the summer of 2024, with about 30% of the network without power.
Komarov wrote about this on his Facebook page, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to him, 5 regional technology centers are powered by generators. In general, the network operates on batteries and generators, while about 4% of the sites have lost their functionality.
Komarov also recommended that Kyivstar Internet users should provide autonomous power for their routers, which could relieve the network during blackouts.
“As of mid-November, only 15-20% of Kyivstar’s home Internet subscribers had taken care of backup power for their routers. During the recent complete blackout in Poltava region, the customer reserve was only 2%.
And then everything is interconnected: users switch to mobile Internet, the load on base stations increases, their battery life decreases, the quality of mobile communication and data transfer speed deteriorate,” he said.
As a reminder, on Thursday, November 20, hourly power outage schedules will be introduced across Ukraine. The restrictions are being introduced due to the consequences of massive missile and drone attacks that have caused significant damage to the energy infrastructure in recent days.
