Mathematics remains a major problem: graduates fail to pass the 7th grade level

One of the biggest challenges in Ukrainian education remains the level of math skills. According to the NMT, a significant number of graduates cannot even pass the basic level of the 7th grade program. This was discussed during the forum of educators and employers “Keeping the Youth” by
“A separate problem is math. Many participants do not even pass the seventh grade level. This shows that the quality of math teaching needs to be addressed systematically. Abandoning this subject (during the NMT – ed.) or reducing its importance is definitely not the answer,” said Vakulenko.
Commenting on the results of this year’s NMT, she also drew attention to significant gaps in the quality of knowledge among children from different rural and urban areas, among graduates of lyceums and vocational education institutions.
In addition, Ms. Vakulenko added that this year the number of last year’s graduates who took the NMT was about 25% of all participants.
“Previously, the number was no more than 10%. This shows that the war has forced many to reconsider their educational trajectories,” said the director of the UCEQA
Over 317 thousand people took part in the national multi-subject test this year.
