Almost 445,000 imports per year: what cars Ukrainians brought from abroad in 2025

Ukraine continues to be a market for used cars. In 2025, 444,860 vehicles were imported into the country, which is 17% more than a year earlier. At the same time, this figure is still about a third lower than before the start of the full-scale war. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to data from ” OpenDataBot.”
More than 70% of imports are used cars
At the end of the year, more than 70% of imported vehicles were used cars. The average age of imported vehicles remained unchanged at 9 years. For comparison, in 2021, this figure was 11 years, which indicates a gradual “rejuvenation” of the car fleet.
Along with mass imports, there were also some real automotive rarities — from a 1967 Honda Monkey moped to a legendary 1971 Chevrolet Corvette. Even among electric cars, there are “veterans”: the oldest Peugeot iOn is already 15 years old.
Electric cars have overtaken diesel
On the eve of the return of taxes on the import of electric cars, demand for them rose sharply. In 2025, every fourth car that crossed the border was electric.
In total, Ukraine imported:
- 109,309 electric cars
- 94,014 diesel cars
- 195,059 gasoline vehicles.
Thus, electric cars surpassed diesel cars in popularity for the first time, although gasoline cars still remain the most popular.
It is worth noting that of the 504 luxury cars subject to luxury tax, half were also electric.
The most popular brands and models
Volkswagen remains the leader in terms of the number of imported cars. The brand topped the ratings in 20 regions of Ukraine.
Among the models, the Tesla Model Y holds the lead, becoming the most popular imported car of the year.
However, there were exceptions in some regions:
- Odesa region — BMW leader
- Chernihiv and Donetsk regions — Renault
- Kherson region — Spark motorcycle brand
In the electric vehicle segment, the dominance is even more noticeable: Tesla became the No. 1 brand in 22 regions, yielding only to:
- Volkswagen — in Zakarpattia region
- BYD — in Sumy
Where most imported cars were registered
Almost one in five imported vehicles was registered in the capital.
Top 5 regions by number of registrations:
- Kyiv — 80,425 cars
- Lviv region — 51,730
- Kyiv region — 28,179
- Dnipropetrovsk region — 26,311
- Rivne region — 23,608.
