Nearly two billion for the metro: Kyiv is preparing to repair the tunnel between the Taras Shevchenko and Pochaina metro stations
30 March 20:17
A major renovation of the tunnel between the Taras Shevchenko and Pochaina metro stations in the capital could cost 1.84 billion hryvnias.
This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
This is a large-scale engineering project aimed at stabilizing the tunnel’s condition and renovating its structures.
What exactly is planned for repair
The project involves a range of engineering works aimed at restoring the structures and improving safety.
Specifically, the plans include:
- reinforce the soil around the tunnel;
- repair the structure’s components;
- renew the upper track structure elements;
- install modern systems for monitoring technical condition.
The work covers the section between the Taras Shevchenko and Pochaina metro stations.
Part of the work will be carried out from the surface
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, part of the repair work is planned to be carried out from the ground level.
This will involve:
- excavation of the foundation pit;
- relief of structural loads;
- relocating and rerouting utility lines.
These works will allow the structure to be restored to its design parameters.
Two repair scenarios
Currently, experts are considering two options for organizing the work.
1. No changes to train schedules
Repairs will be carried out from the surface, which will allow the usual metro schedule to be maintained.
2. With schedule adjustments
Temporary changes are possible, including:
- extending the nighttime “window” for work;
- adjustments to the train schedule on weekends.
Currently, the Kyiv City State Administration is preparing documentation for the procurement process and contractor selection.
After that, the city will be able to determine the final start dates for the work and the format of its execution.
