“McDonald’s has finally left Mykolaiv: the restaurant is officially closed

The McDonald’s restaurant in Mykolaiv, which stopped working after the start of the full-scale invasion, has been officially closed. This is confirmed by data from the YouControl analytical system, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Mykolaivska Pravda.
As of May 27, a separate division of the company with foreign investments, McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd, in Mykolaiv has the status of “Suspended”.
At the same time, according to OpenDataBot, the actual termination of the branch’s activities took place in early 2024.
In addition, the AntAC reported that Russian propaganda resources are actively distorting information about McDonald’s activities in Ukraine.
In particular, they are promoting a fake narrative about the alleged “final withdrawal” of the chain from Mykolaiv due to the “threat of a Russian offensive” to sow panic among Ukrainians.
“In fact, the closure of McDonald’s restaurants in a number of cities, including Mykolaiv and Kharkiv, took place at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 – solely for security reasons, including logistics and supply problems. There were no official statements from the company about its final withdrawal from Mykolaiv. Instead, Russian sources are manipulating and inventing reasons such as “lack of quality water” or “fear of an offensive,” the Center for Public Policy says.
Hostile telegram channels are also spreading false information about alleged preparations to close restaurants in Dnipro and Chernihiv.
McDonald’s officially confirms that its restaurants in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Sumy are temporarily closed due to security risks. However, the company has no plans to close restaurants in other regions.
“Russia systematically uses such fakes to create the illusion of instability, chaos and economic decline in Ukraine,” the Center emphasized.
The first McDonald’s restaurant in Mykolaiv was opened in 2007. In 2012, it was temporarily closed for reconstruction. Immediately before the full-scale war, the construction of the second restaurant was underway in the Ingulskyi neighborhood, but the project was not completed.
