Mayor of Reni gets 9 years in prison for $100,000 bribe

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has found Ihor Plekhov, mayor of Reni in Odesa region, and Ivan Poydolov, a former member of the local council, guilty of bribery. They were sentenced to nine and ten years in prison respectively. This was reported by the press service of the High Anti-Corruption Court, Komersant ukrainskyi https://www.komersant.info/ reports.

According to the investigation, the mayor of Reni and a former deputy wanted to receive a bribe of $100,000 for the allocation of a 2.5-hectare communal land plot for lease. They were exposed while receiving half of the bribe.

The court agreed with the position of the SAPO prosecutor and found the individuals guilty of committing a crime under Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court sentenced Plekhov to 9 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all his property.

A deputy of the city council of Izmail district, Odesa region, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

According to media reports, Igor Poydolov fled to Moldova in 2023, illegally crossing the border outside the checkpoint. He was put on the international wanted list. The HACC recovered UAH 1.87 million of the bail posted for Poydolov to the budget.
