Kyiv Metro changes its schedule: how trains will move now
30 May 2024 16:16
The Kyiv metro will increase train intervals due to a shortage of staff, which will change the schedule of public transport. All the details were posted by Kyiv Metro on its official Facebook page, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The utility company explained that due to mobilisation, there was a shortage of drivers and technicians in the metro. Almost 7% of employees are now in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, the shortage of workers was caused by the fact that not every worker “from the street” can work on this type of public transport.
“Metro is a narrow-profile enterprise, and training and adaptation of some professions requires long-term specialised training. For example, an electric train driver has to be trained for more than 12 months before he or she can work independently on the line,” the company explained.
Currently, the Kyiv subway lacks
- turners and fitters (161 vacancies);
- electromechanics (48 vacancies);
- electric train drivers (83 vacancies).
In this regard, train schedules on all subway lines will be changed in the near future. The intervals between trains will be increased by approximately one minute during off-peak hours and 45 seconds during peak hours.
