Michelin to implement AI in tires
28 December 04:09
Michelin has introduced a new generation of smart tires that can independently analyze the condition of the road surface and the degree of wear without using traditional pressure sensors. The presentation of the technology is scheduled for CES 2026 in Las Vegas, CarScoops reports, "Komersant Ukrainian".
The development is based on the use of artificial intelligence and was created in partnership with the technology company Sonatus. Unlike classical solutions, the system does not require the installation of separate sensors and can work on any car. Algorithms analyze the car’s behavior in real time – braking intensity, load, lateral acceleration and other driving parameters – and use them to assess the condition of the tires.
The technology is called SmartLoad and SmartWear. The former is responsible for analyzing the load, the latter for determining the level of wear. According to Michelin, the system is capable of predicting tire condition with high accuracy and can completely replace traditional tire pressure monitoring systems in the future.
A special emphasis is placed on data processing: all information is analyzed locally, directly on board the vehicle, without transferring it to cloud services. This reduces delays, increases reliability, and eliminates the risks associated with data transmission.
The company believes that the implementation of such solutions will allow automakers and fleets to significantly reduce maintenance costs. According to Michelin, the total economic effect of the technology could reach $1.68 billion by 2030.
