Million-dollar losses of Odesa airport: NABU reveals how the scheme worked

24 October 05:12

The NABU and the SAPO have completed an investigation into the case of the acting CEO of Odesa International Airport, who is suspected of causing millions of dollars in damage to the company. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the NABU.

According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s website, the official deliberately failed to submit an application for airfield certification to the State Aviation Administration. This certification allowed the company to receive income from airlines (takeoff, landing and parking of aircraft) since 2003.

In addition, the suspect helped to ensure that the airport operator status was granted to a private company.

As a result, in December 2020, the utility company lost this status, and the said company became the new airport operator and began to earn money by providing airlines with relevant services.

The NABU stated that due to such actions, the Odesa community suffered losses of more than UAH 15.6 million.

The suspect’s actions are classified under Part 2 of Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power or position that caused grave consequences).
