Energy Minister advises to prepare for a difficult winter

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine is calling on consumers to conserve electricity due to significant losses of generating capacity after enemy shelling. The Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko called for this during a telethon, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Galushchenko said that in recent months, the Ukrainian energy system has suffered the most damage since the start of the full-scale war with Russia.

“As of today, we have already lost about 8 GW of power in the system. If this had happened in any other country, there would have been a total blackout. The situation is difficult. But there is power today, the system is balanced, and this is the result of the hard work of power engineers who work every day, around the clock, to maintain the system,”

– he stressed.

Answering the question whether the current conditions will lead to the same electricity supply restrictions as in 2022-2023, the Minister noted that the situation is extremely difficult to predict, although it is obvious that it will be difficult.

“It will be difficult to keep the system without restrictions, especially in winter. We should also take into account that we are recording the situation as of now, and it is difficult to predict the situation by winter, taking into account the next shelling or its impact on the system. But it is obvious that there will be an additional negative impact on the system. Therefore, the situation will be difficult,”

– the Minister said.

He advised consumers to prepare for a difficult winter and added that there may be difficulties with electricity supply in the summer.

“Even if you don’t have any restrictions today, you need to understand that the war is ongoing and there will be restrictions somewhere along the line. That is why it is very important to use electricity sparingly,”

– galushchenko emphasised.
