Defense Minister Fedorov appoints new advisor: who is it?

25 January 14:52

Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced the strengthening of the defense technology unit and the appointment of Serhiy Beskrestnov (call sign “Flash”) as advisor on technology issues.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Fedorov’s post on Telegram.

According to Fedorov, in modern technological warfare, understanding innovation, predicting enemy actions, and creating solutions that can change the situation on the battlefield play a key role.

“We are strengthening this area with people who have already proven their effectiveness. Flash is one of the strongest practical experts in the field of drones, electronic warfare, and analysis of enemy decisions,” the minister said.

Main specialization

Fedorov emphasized that Beskrestnov’s expertise covers radio communications, electronic warfare systems, and intelligence. He was one of the first to publicly report on Russia’s use of FPV drones with machine vision and jet-powered “Shaheds.”

Currently, the new advisor’s main focus is on developing systemic solutions to counter Russian strike and reconnaissance drones, reducing the effectiveness of enemy attacks, and protecting Ukrainian military personnel.

“The development of electronic warfare is critically important — in war, the winner is the one who adapts faster,” Fedorov emphasized.

Beskrestnov himself also responded to the appointment, saying that he hopes to achieve significant improvements on the front lines.

“I receive a wide variety of first-hand information. I have long worked with all departments and structures through horizontal connections. My circle of communication includes the smartest and most knowledgeable people in the country, both among the military and law enforcement, as well as among developers and manufacturers,” he wrote.

Other areas of technological work

At the same time, Serhiy Beskrestnov will also work on other key areas of defense, in particular:

  • working with captured enemy equipment—analyzing, logistics, and studying enemy solutions to turn this experience into an advantage for the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • expert assessment of new military developments – selecting not concepts “on paper,” but solutions that have already proven their effectiveness in combat conditions.

“Today, war is about mathematics, technology, and speed of decision-making. We must not just react, but build a system that is constantly learning and becoming stronger,” Fedorov emphasized.
