on 8 July, the Ministry of Education and Science sent letters to Ukrainian higher education institutions demanding the installation of solar (wind) generation facilities. This was reported on condition of anonymity in the Facebook communityHigher Education News.

The letters demand that “solar (wind) generation facilities and energy storage equipment should be installed in educational institutions as soon as possible, ensuring the uninterrupted operation of educational institutions.

By 15 July 2024, organise and ensure an awareness-raising campaign among the staff and students of educational institutions to improve energy efficiency, energy saving and economical consumption of energy resources, including to encourage the installation of solar power plants and energy storage facilities by the population.”

It is noted that the Ministry of Education and Science does not explain how exactly the HEIs should implement this instruction and at what expense.

“How can this really be done? Do all institutions have funding for solar panels and the ability to install them? All teachers and students are on holiday – how to inform them?”

– the post says.

It is added that the administrations of some universities are “shocked by this initiative” of the Ministry of Education.

Previously reported earlier that 24 Ukrainian universities received UAH 40 million to repair shelters.

As a reminder, Education Minister Lisovyi may be dismissed.
