The Ministry of Defense introduces digital fuel accounting

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has approved the concept of digital accounting and monitoring of fuel consumption and quality. This is a step towards the most transparent and controlled supply of the Armed Forces, as well as the implementation of the provisions of the National Anti-Corruption Program.
This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ministry of Defense.
The concept was initiated by the Logistics Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The document defines the principles of controlling fuel balances in supply centers and further implementation of digital tools.
“We start with the concept, and then step by step we are implementing full digital accounting and monitoring of fuel, which is one of the key resources for the army,” said Denys Shmyhal, Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
Fuel storage and transportation tanks will be gradually equipped with special sensors integrated with the digital metering system. The sensors will automatically measure the fuel level and transmit the data to the support services online.
Fuel is already accounted for in a digital system based on SAP, a modern resource management program used by the armies of 90% of NATO countries. Previously, on-site inspections and manual measurements were required to reconcile accounting data with actual balances, which took time and created risks of errors or abuse.
With the sensors, you can instantly see the real state of the fuel. In the event of a shortage or abnormal losses, the situation can be responded to quickly. Paper logs and daily manual measurements will no longer be required, and control will become automatic and continuous.
The next stage will be the introduction of digital tools for automatic calculation of fuel requirements.
“The system knows how much fuel is available, how it is consumed, and how often it is replenished. In the future, this will allow us to predict needs and replenish stocks in time. This is how modern retail works in the world,” said Oksana Ferchuk, Deputy Minister of Defense for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization.
