On Wednesday, September 3, a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived in Kyiv. The mission will work in Ukraine for about a week and will hold a series of meetings with government officials. This was announced by Vladislav Rashkovan, Deputy Executive Director of the IMF for Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“We arrived in Kyiv late in the evening, the morning started in a bomb shelter. We are ready to work. We have many meetings scheduled,” he said.

What’s on the agenda?

The mission’s visit is related to preparations for the ninth review of the EFF Extended Fund Facility.

Initially, the ninth and tenth reviews were planned separately – in late August and early December 2025, but they were combined into a single review to be held in the fourth quarter of this year.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed a new financial support program for Ukraine with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. It should be a logical continuation of the current one and help consolidate the resources of international partners to finance the budget and defense spending.

What might the new program look like?

According to NBU First Deputy Governor Serhiy Nikolaychuk, the new program will have a longer horizon and a better chance of meeting the IMF’s internal parameters. Its main objectives are as follows:

  • ensuring macroeconomic and financial stability;
  • support for the budget amid high security risks;
  • creating conditions for economic recovery with a focus on European integration;
  • developing financial market infrastructure as a foundation for future growth.
