Mobilisation 2024: where people with health problems will serve

11 June 2024 11:27

Over the past month, the rate of mobilisation to the Armed Forces of Ukraine has increased. In this regard (and given the fact that Ukrainian lawmakers have abolished the category of those who are limitedly fit for military service), the question of how and where men and women with this status will serve has become relevant. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

Cancellation of the term “limitedly fit” does not mean an automatic transition to another status (fit/unfit). If a person was declared partially fit before 04 May 2024, he or she must undergo a second VLC within nine months after 04 May 2024.

After the re-examination, the citizens will be declared

  • unfit – excluded from the military register;
  • fit – may perform military service.

Men who are declared fit by the military medical commission with certain health restrictions can perform military service in support units, TCC and JV, training units, etc. The Ministry of Defence explains that the doctors of the MEC will determine the degree of fitness for military service and indicate where a person can and cannot serve.

It is worth noting that it became known a little earlier whether referrals to the MEC would become electronic. Fedir Venislavskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, said that Ukraine does not plan to introduce electronic referrals to the military medical commission in the Reserve mobile application.

“We did not regulate in the law on mobilisation the possibility of sending any notifications or referrals to the MEC through the electronic cabinet. Therefore, from the point of view of the law, it is not possible to send notices to the MEC through electronic means of communication,” Venislavsky said.

However, prior to the interview with Fedir Venislavskyi, Deputy Minister of Defence for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalisation Kateryna Chernohorenko said during a national telethon that the ministry was considering the possibility of creating an electronic referral to the MEC.
