Mobilization under 55: a draft law has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada

A draft law has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada that proposes to lower the upper age limit for mobilization from 60 to 55. This is stated in the card of the bill No. 12222, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
At the same time, the document proposes to preserve the right to military service for citizens over 55 years of age, if they have expressed such a desire.
In an explanatory note, the authors of the bill say that the physical health of most men aged about 55 to 60 is unsatisfactory and that “the army is getting older.”
“The request in the petitions to reduce the mobilization age from 60 to 55 is justified by the fact that, given that men under the age of 60 are currently subject to mobilization, and based on the average life expectancy of men – 63 years, it is clear that the physical health of most men aged about 55 to 60 is unsatisfactory. The reason for this is the fact that almost always, according to the results of the military hospital commission, men of this age are at least limitedly fit for military service,” the explanatory note says.
In addition, it cites lower-level commanders who ask to mobilize fewer older men because, they say, they cannot be used in some areas of combat operations.
It should be noted that the official website of the President of Ukraine has registered electronic petitions to lower the maximum mobilization age for men from 60 to 55, one of which has gained the required 25,000 signatures in almost 2 months.
Currently, men aged 25 to 60 can be drafted into the army.
On August 21, the Verkhovna Rada passed a bill that granted a deferral from mobilization to non-family members of the fallen and missing defenders. This initiative was supported by 310 MPs.
