Vladimir Kasukhnych , director of the Central Forest Office branch of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine,” spoke about the challenges faced by the forestry industry in 2025 due to mobilization and staff shortages, according to [Komersant] , citing an interview with the official in the publication Vycherpno.

“Not all contractors have the ability to reserve employees during mobilization. As a result, there is a shortage of personnel, which directly affects the volume of harvesting. That is why we are restoring our own staff teams. As of today, the branch employs 81 loggers and timber fellers, and we continue to hire people,” said Kasukhnych.

Despite the difficulties, the branch fulfilled its harvesting plan by 100%, harvesting over 1.2 million cubic meters of wood. Our own teams and mechanized Harvester-Forwarder complexes harvested 22,900 cubic meters of wood in 2025, with the rest harvested by contractors.

“Auction contracts were fulfilled by an average of 98% per year. As for forward contracts, according to information from the Ukrainian Universal Exchange, our branch became the leader and ensured the fulfillment of contracts by 101%,” he added.

Particular attention was paid to providing the population and the Armed Forces with firewood.

“In 2025, we shipped 485,000 cubic meters of wood to the population. We also fully provided for the social sector – schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and boarding schools. For social institutions, 63,200 cubic meters were sold, of which 56,500 cubic meters were sold under tender contracts.

We transferred 7,400 cubic meters free of charge for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and all military requests were fulfilled as a matter of priority,” Kasukhnych said.

He also spoke about social support for mobilized employees and families of the deceased:

“Together with the team, we purchased and transferred two vehicles directly to our soldiers’ units. We remember and support everyone who defends the state.”

As [Komersant], in January, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine extended restrictions on the export of unprocessed wood, fuel wood, and ferrous metal and copper scrap until the end of 2026 .
