Wet snow and black ice: weather forecast for February 26

On Wednesday, February 26, weather conditions in Ukraine are expected to worsen: wet snow, rain, and icy roads are forecast in some areas. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

Forecasters warn that weather conditions may cause traffic complications, especially at night and in the morning.

Where precipitation is expected

According to meteorologists’ forecasts:

  • wet snow and rain are possible in the east and southeast of the country;
  • light snow is forecast in the Carpathians at night;
  • no significant precipitation is expected in most of Ukraine;
  • at night and in the morning, except for the south and Transcarpathia, icy conditions will form on the roads.

A level I hazard warning (yellow) has been issued.

Air temperature on February 26

Temperatures will range from 2° below zero to 3° above zero during the day.

At night:

  • in western, northern, and most central regions — 1–6° below zero;
  • in the Carpathians — 7–12° below zero.

During the day:

  • in most regions — from 2° below zero to 3° above zero;
  • in Transcarpathia and Crimea — 1–6° above freezing.

Wind and possible gusts

The wind will be mainly northern, with a speed of 5–10 m/s.
In southern regions, gusts of up to 15–18 m/s are expected in some places during the day.

Weather in Kyiv and the region

On February 26, it will be cloudy in the capital and the Kyiv region, with no significant precipitation. At the same time, icy roads are possible at night and in the morning.

  • The wind will be from the north, 5–10 m/s.
  • The temperature in the region at night will be 1–6° below zero, and during the day — from 2° below zero to 3° above zero.
  • In Kyiv, the temperature at night will be 3–5° below zero, and during the day — around 0°.

What does the yellow danger level mean?

A yellow danger level indicates potentially dangerous weather conditions that may lead to traffic complications and an increased risk of accidents.

Drivers are advised to:

  • reduce speed;
  • keep their distance;
  • be especially careful on bridges and overpasses;
  • avoid traveling in the morning hours if possible.
