Moldova believes that the geopolitical context is now such that it is possible to hope for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports, citing Evropeiska Pravda.
Answering a question about the conditions for the withdrawal of illegally deployed Russian troops, Recean said:
“There is now an international context that could lead to the fact that Russia could withdraw its troops from the left bank of the Dniester as part of this negotiation process. Perhaps not necessarily in the peace negotiation process, it is hard to imagine in the near future, but in the negotiation process that concerns Ukraine and the new EU security architecture.”
He emphasized the importance of including this issue in the agenda of future negotiations.
“Any negotiations that are now about peace or a ceasefire in Ukraine are essentially about a new security architecture in Europe,”
– Dorin Rechan emphasized.

PMR
Transnistria or the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR) is a self-proclaimed state in eastern Moldova that was formed in 1990 and declared independence on August 25, 1991, the day after Ukraine. However, unlike Ukraine, it has not gained international recognition.
Since 1992, after an armed conflict between Moldova and separatists backed by Russia’s 14th Army, Transnistria has not been under the control of the Moldovan authorities. The international community considers this territory to be part of the Republic of Moldova, and its independence is recognized only by two similarly unrecognized republics – Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The territory of the TMR is a narrow strip of land between the Dniester River and the Ukrainian border, occupying about 11% of Moldova’s territory. The capital is Tiraspol, and the main cities are Bender and Rybnitsa.
The region is still home to the Russian military and significant stockpiles of Soviet weapons and ammunition, including a warehouse in the village of Kolbasna, which poses a potential threat to the security of the entire region.
Since January 1 of this year, the unrecognized republic has been in an energy crisis, when Ukraine stopped transiting Russian gas. However, according to experts, Russia can provide Transnistria with gas, but does not do so.
Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu also expressed hope for a “geopolitical opportunity” to resolve the conflict in Transnistria.
