Moldova reduces gas transit tariff from Greece to Ukraine
26 October 00:21
Moldova has decided to reduce the tariff for gas transit from Greece for the 2025-2026 heating season in Ukraine. The discount will be 50%.
This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the official statement of the National Energy Regulatory Agency of Moldova (ANRE)
On October 24, the agency made a decision that will ensure the supply of natural gas to Ukraine. This is a joint initiative of the natural gas transmission system operators of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
“The initiative is aimed at strengthening regional energy security and ensuring natural gas supplies to Ukraine,” the agency said.
ANRE has approved a reduction in the tariff for gas transportation to Ukraine for the Moldovan gas transmission system operator Vestmoldtransgaz. A similar discount is applied by the Romanian gas transmission system operator Transgaz. It will amount to 50% and will be valid for six months – from November 2025 to April 2026.
The discount is interesting because it will reduce Ukraine’s total gas import costs. In fact, the logistics of fuel will be cheaper, which will allow us to buy more of it with the same amount of financial resources. This is very important as Ukraine plans to increase gas imports due to Russian terrorist attacks against gas production.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that the country urgently needs to address the issue of additional gas imports due to production losses. However, the exact volumes of imports are not publicly disclosed as the government has classified this information.
