Former MP Ihor Mosiychuk said that Nestor Shufrych, a member of the Ukrainian parliament of the IX convocation from the banned OPFL political party, who has been in jail for a year on suspicion of treason, had died. Fifteen minutes later, Mosiychuk called this information a mistake, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“OPFL MP Nestor Shufrych died in custody! Familiar lawyers reported it,” Mosiychuk initially wrote.

15 minutes later, he denied the information.

“The information about Shufrych was not confirmed! The lawyers have stepped in! He will live a long time!!!” he added.

It should be noted that there is no official information on Shufrych’s condition yet.

UPDATE at 14:50

The spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, Nadiya Maksymets, said that the information about Shufrich’s death was not true.

“To the attention of the media. The information about the death of the MP in a pre-trial detention centre is not true,” she wrote on Facebook.

It is known that yesterday Shufrych felt unwell in court after surgery. The court granted the motion to consider the case by a panel of three judges today, 5 September.

What is known about the case of Nestor Shufrich

Nestor Shufrych is accused of high treason and transferring funds to pay a security firm in the occupied Crimea in 2016.

“In 2016, in order to protect property on the temporarily occupied peninsula, the defendants organised the conclusion of a security contract with the illegal paramilitary formation of the occupation authorities in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea – FSUE “Okhrana” of the Russian Guard for the Republic of Crimea. Later, they organised the transfer and payment of more than 648.7 thousand Russian rubles to the Russian Federal Guard, which is involved in the war against Ukraine, for the protection of property,” the Prosecutor General’s Office said recently.

On Tuesday, 3 September, prosecutors sent to court an indictment against Shufrych, a member of the Ukrainian parliament of the IX convocation from the banned OPFL political party. The MP’s aide will also be tried.

The defendants are in custody.

Shufrich himself has been in custody for almost a year. He does not admit his guilt. He considers the case to be politically motivated.
