Meldonium, a banned substance that increases endurance and improves athletic performance, was found in the body of Ukrainian footballer Mykhailo Mudryk. According to the anti-doping rules of the English Football Association (FA), the player could face up to four years of suspension.
Mudryk hasn’t taken the field since November 2024, after an “A” sample showed the presence of a banned substance. All this time, the player and the Chelsea club were waiting for the results of the B test.
After the information about the violation was made public, the FA refrained from commenting, noting that the investigation was ongoing. Chelsea took a similar position, refusing to make any official statements.
Mudryk himself denies intentionally using banned drugs. To protect his interests, he turned to Morgan Sports Law, a law firm that has previously represented players such as Paul Pogba.
The head coach of the Ukrainian national football team, Serhiy Rebrov, said that he spoke with Mudryk after the incident, and he was “very upset about it.” According to Rebrov, the national team will “support the player, will fight for him.”
