The music giant is under attack: Spotify confirms cyberattack and investigates catalog leak

Streaming service Spotify has reported a large-scale cyberattack on its systems, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports. The company acknowledges the hack, but emphasizes that users’ personal data was not affected.
What happened
Spotify confirmed the fact of unauthorized access to internal systems. According to preliminary information, the attackers penetrated corporate storages and could copy large amounts of content. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
What the company says
Spotify called the situation “serious but under control”. The company assures that passwords, payment details, and other personal data of listeners were not leaked, and the infrastructure is being further checked for vulnerabilities.
What the hackers say
Earlier, a pirate activist group announced that it had extracted and published Spotify metadata on the open-source platform Anna’s Archive:
- the leak allegedly contains 256 million lines of track metadata;
- 86 million audio files that could be distributed.
Spotify is one of the largest streaming services in the world.
