An unknown person blew up a police car in Bukovina: a special operation is underway

In the town of Storozhynets in the Chernivtsi district, an unknown person threw a grenade at a police car, injuring two police officers. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine on its Telegram channel, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

What happened in Storozhynets: a grenade was thrown at a police car

According to the police, the incident occurred on the evening of February 19 at around 10:50 p.m. in the town of Storozhynets in the Chernivtsi district.

An unknown attacker threw an explosive device, presumably a grenade, at a police car.

As a result of the explosion:

  • two police officers were injured;
  • the official vehicle was damaged;
  • emergency services immediately arrived at the scene.

Condition of the injured police officers

The National Police reported that the injured law enforcement officers are already receiving the necessary medical assistance.

Information about the severity of their injuries is currently being clarified. The police officers are under medical supervision.

A special police operation has been launched in the region

After the incident, law enforcement officers immediately launched a special police operation to locate and apprehend the attacker.

The following are working at the scene:

  • investigative and operational teams;
  • explosives experts;
  • criminalists;
  • police operational units.

Law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the crime, as well as the identity of the perpetrator.

Police investigate attack on law enforcement officers

The incident is considered a serious crime against law enforcement officers. An attack using a grenade can be classified under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in particular as attempted murder or an attack on the life of a law enforcement officer.

The police have promised to provide additional information after the initial investigation.
