Farmer kidnapped in Dnipropetrovs’k region and demanded $70 thousand ransom

In Dnipropetrovs’k region, law enforcement officers detained two men on suspicion of kidnapping a local farmer. The attackers demanded $70,000 for his release. This was reported by the National Police and the Prosecutor General’s Office, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to the investigation, on July 24, the 51-year-old head of a farm in the village of Gubynikha received a call from unknown persons who arranged a meeting. During the meeting, the man was handcuffed, put in his own Volkswagen car and taken to Donetsk region.
After that, the kidnappers demanded that the farmer’s son transfer $70,000 to a crypto wallet. After receiving the money, they released the victim and disappeared. The farmer immediately turned to the police, and law enforcement officers launched a manhunt.





The attackers were two men aged 23 and 24. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, one of them is a former military serviceman, the other is a current one.
The detainees’ cell phones, starter packs, clothes, some money, and a car purchased with the money received from the victim were seized.
The two men were served a notice of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: illegal imprisonment, illegal seizure of a vehicle and extortion.
They face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
