Commander of a military unit in Donetsk region unreasonably paid UAH 3.5 million in “combat” payments

In Donetsk region, the State Bureau of Investigation exposed members of an organised group who illegally accrued and paid “combat” pay to military units that were not actually serving on the front line. The amount of damage caused to the state is over UAH 3.5 million. The suspects included in the lists for payments 10 servicemen of the unit who were not actually directly involved in hostilities and were outside the Donetsk region.

“For 6 months, these servicemen were unjustifiably paid UAH 100,000 at different times. Part of the money, allegedly as charity for their unit, they transferred to a card account specified by the command,”

– the report says.

Thus, in the period from March to September, the amount of damage caused to the state was almost UAH 3.5 million.

It is noted that SBI officers exposed the criminal scheme, conducted handwriting, economic and military examinations.

The commander of the military unit and three of his subordinates are suspected of embezzlement and misappropriation of property committed by an organised group through abuse of office on a particularly large scale and issuance of knowingly false official documents by an official (Part 5 of Article 191, Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The sanctions of the articles provide for imprisonment for up to 12 years with confiscation of property.
