Combat medic and museum worker Maryna Hrytsenko dies at the front

Maryna Hrytsenko, 39, known as the chief curator of the Chernihiv Art Museum and a Plast member, died on the front line. During the war, she served as a combat medic in the 3rd separate assault brigade under the call sign “Mary.”
The loss was reported by colleagues from the museum, the Chernihiv Plast and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The Chernihiv Art Museum noted that Maryna was a symbol of resilience during the siege of the city and defended the cultural heritage, risking her own life.
Mary was born into a family of doctors and graduated from the history department of the Taras Shevchenko College in Chernihiv. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, she and her daughter lived in the museum to protect the exhibits from looters.
In February 2023, she became a rifleman and took part in the battles for the Kharkiv region. In January 2025, she received the Order “For Courage” of the III degree from the President of Ukraine.
on August 7, 2025, while performing a combat mission, Maryna was killed by a Russian drone attack along with her two comrades-in-arms.
She is survived by her 15-year-old daughter Yulia and her parents.
