Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that an explosive device was discovered at a critical gas infrastructure facility connecting Serbia and Hungary.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Orbán’s statement on Facebook.
“I have just concluded a telephone conversation with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. Serbian authorities have discovered an explosive device capable of causing significant damage, along with the means necessary to activate it, at a critical gas infrastructure facility connecting Serbia and Hungary,” the Hungarian prime minister noted.
Orbán added that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
He also noted that he had convened an emergency meeting of the Defense Council at noon that same day.
Anti-terrorist operation in Serbia
According tothe“Balkan Observer,” following the discovery of explosives near the “Balkan Stream” gas pipeline in northern Serbia, a large-scale counterterrorism operation was launched involving over 140 police and military personnel.
According to Serbian authorities, two large military backpacks containing high-explosive materials and detonation cords were found near the main gas pipeline route in the area of the villages of Velebit and Vojvoda Zimonich.
Experts concluded that this would have been sufficient to destroy a compressor station and cause a prolonged halt in gas transit to Hungary.
Currently, traffic has been blocked in the area around several settlements; law enforcement officers are inspecting abandoned buildings, industrial facilities, and transportation hubs, as well as searching for other possible explosive devices and individuals who may have delivered the explosives to the strategic facility.
