Oleksandr Hordienko – a farmer with a gun
Oleksandr Hordiienko was not just an experienced farmer with thirty years of experience – he became a symbol of resistance in the de-occupied Kherson region. In recent months, the farmer has been fighting Russian drones attacking his fields on his own. Armed with a ten-shot Turkish rifle and an electronic warfare device, he hunted down enemy drones. His car, with its headlights on, constantly patrolled the fields to the constant beeping of a frequency analyzer.

At first, Hordienko tried to shoot down drones with a double-barreled shotgun, but it proved ineffective. Then he bought a more powerful weapon and officially obtained permits for it. The former hunter explained that it was much easier to hit a high-speed target with a ten-shot rifle. At his base, he demonstrated a Russian reconnaissance drone that had landed almost intact, a trophy of a successful hunt.
After the de-occupation, Hordiienko personally demined his farm, from which about five thousand anti-tank mines were removed. He headed the regional association of farmers and private landowners and fought for state support for farmers working under constant shelling. This year, his farm, like many others in the Kherson region, lost a significant portion of its crops due to drought and hostilities. Despite all the difficulties and threats, the farmer did not leave his native land until the last day.
