The Dnipro Hotel is on fire on Khreshchatyk Street: what is known

On the morning of February 5, a fire broke out in the Dnipro Hotel, located on Khreshchatyk Street in central Kyiv. Emergency services are working at the scene and are continuing to extinguish the fire. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Telegram channel of the Kyiv City State Administration.

Where exactly did the fire occur?

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the fire broke out on the 4th floor of the Dnipro Hotel. The building is located in the central part of the city, not far from European Square.

“Rescue workers are extinguishing a fire in the Pechersky district. The fire broke out on the fourth floor of the Dnipro Hotel on Khreshchatyk Street,” the Kyiv City State Administration reported.

All necessary emergency and rescue services are working at the scene. Information about the victims and the causes of the fire is being clarified.

The situation as of now

As of this morning:

  • firefighting operations are ongoing;
  • the State Emergency Service and city services are involved;
  • traffic in the central part of the city may be difficult due to the work of special equipment.

No official reports of evacuations or casualties have been received at this time.

What is known about the Dnipro Hotel

The Dnipro Hotel is a four-star hotel in the very center of the capital, on European Square. The building was constructed in 1964 at the beginning of Khreshchatyk Street, next to government institutions, the Dynamo Stadium, and the National Philharmonic.

Until July 2020, the hotel was under the jurisdiction of the State Administration of Affairs. That same year, the property was sold at auction for 1.11 billion hryvnia. The interiors and design of the restaurant area were created by renowned architect Irma Karakis.
