In Kyiv region, a law enforcement officer “lured” men out of military service for $15,000

A law enforcement officer was detained in Kyiv region on receiving a $15,000 bribe for “covering up” a conscript’s failure to serve in the Armed Forces. This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), Komersant ukrainskyi
reports.
“In January 2024, a law enforcement officer offered his friend “help” to remove him from the military register and ensure his free travel abroad. The law enforcement officer was going to implement his intention allegedly through his acquaintances in one of the territorial centres of recruitment and social support in Kyiv region,”
– the statement said.
It is noted that the law enforcement officer put pressure on his acquaintance, saying that he had allegedly received information from trusted persons in the recruitment centre that he would be drafted into the army in the coming days.
However, the person liable for military service filed a complaint with law enforcement agencies, which then controlled the transaction. They detained the offender while he was receiving the full amount of the bribe.



The law enforcement officer is suspected of obtaining an unlawful benefit for influencing the decision-making of a person authorised to perform state functions and promising to influence the provision of such benefit, combined with extortion of such benefit – Part 3 of Art. 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
A custody with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 580 thousand was chosen as a measure of restraint.
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to 8 years with confiscation of property.
