In Lviv region, a fraudster collected donations under the guise of a veteran

A man who posed as a soldier with an amputated arm in order to fraudulently receive money will be tried in Lviv region. This was reported by the police of the Lviv region, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“As law enforcement officers found out, a 51-year-old resident of the Kyiv region, who had previously been convicted of property crimes, organized a “charity collection” near one of the hypermarkets in Lviv. He faces up to three years in prison for his actions. The accused was exposed by investigators of the Police Department No. 1 of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 together with employees of the Department for Combating Cybercrime in Lviv Region,” the statement said.

The offender in military uniform, hiding behind a fictitious need for prosthetics and rehabilitation, fraudulently seized the funds of a Lviv resident in the amount of 4 thousand hryvnias.

The pre-trial investigation under Part 2 Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Fraud”), which was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Lviv Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region, has been completed.

The indictment was submitted to the court. The article provides for a maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment.
