A DTEK power facility in the Odesa region was seriously damaged by shelling: what is known

8 April 23:46

In the Odesa region, a DTEK power facility sustained serious damage as a result of Russian shelling. The company reported the attack on the evening of April 8, noting that the enemy has been shelling the Odesa region almost around the clock and struck one of the power facilities in the late afternoon. DTEK stated that crews are already on site and inspecting the damaged equipment, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

The company emphasized that repair work will begin as soon as the security situation allows. Until then, specialists are conducting an initial inspection and assessing the extent of the damage. DTEK assured that it will do everything possible to restore power to consumers’ homes as quickly as possible.

What happened in the Odesa region

According to DTEK, on the evening of April 8, a Russian attack once again struck the energy infrastructure of the Odesa region. The company’s facility sustained serious damage. This occurred amid ongoing shelling of the region, which in recent days has repeatedly led to power outages and emergency repairs.

The situation in the Odesa region is particularly difficult because this is not the first strike on the region’s energy infrastructure in recent days. Earlier, DTEK and local authorities had already reported damage to energy facilities and power outages affecting some consumers following previous attacks.

What DTEK is saying

The company stated that energy workers have already arrived at the site of the strike and are inspecting the damaged equipment.

Further repair work will depend on the threat level and the security situation in the area. This is currently the main prerequisite for beginning a full-scale restoration.

Will this affect power outages?

In the wake of the new attack on the energy sector in the Odesa region, Ukraine is already preparing for power restrictions on April 9.

Power consumption restrictions will be implemented across all regions of the country due to a shortage in the power grid following Russian strikes on energy facilities.

Why is the Odesa region at risk again?

The Odesa region remains one of the constant targets of Russian attacks. Energy facilities in the region are regularly damaged, and energy workers have to not only restore the grid but also return to sections that have already been repaired following new strikes.

That is why any new shelling here immediately creates risks to the power supply for a large number of consumers.

What this means for consumers

For residents of the Odesa region and other areas, this news means that the power grid is once again operating under additional strain. If a damaged facility cannot be quickly restored, this could affect the stability of the power supply in the region and increase the need for restrictions during peak consumption hours.

Consumers are advised to follow announcements from their distribution system operators and regional power companies, as they are the ones publishing current schedules and updates regarding the restoration of power supply.
