Wreckage of a drone with Cyrillic alphabet found on Polish-Belarusian border: second incident in a month
8 September 14:34
On the evening of September 7, the wreckage of an unknown drone with Cyrillic inscriptions was found near the Polish-Belarusian border in the Terespol area. This was reported by PAP with reference to law enforcement, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The discovery was made by border guards at about 22:00 in a corn field in the village of Polatice, Biało Podlaskie County, just 300 meters from the border.
The prosecutor’s office noted that the drone was without an explosive part, but there were inscriptions in Cyrillic on its body. Polish services have launched an investigation to determine the drone’s origin and flight route.
This was the second case in the last month. On the night of August 20, a Russian drone crashed and detonated in eastern Poland. At the time, it was confirmed that the drone had deviated from its course during a Russian air attack on Ukrainian territory.
On the night of September 8, the Russian army again launched a massive attack on Ukraine, launching 142 Shahed, Gerber and other modifications of attack drones. Ukraine’s air defense forces were able to destroy 112 of them, but some still reached their targets.
Incidents involving hostile drones in Ukraine’s neighboring countries are becoming more frequent.
In particular, in 2023-2024, the wreckage of Russian drones repeatedly fell in Romania and Moldova, which caused protests in these countries and demands that Russia stop threatening their security. NATO has repeatedly emphasized that it closely monitors such cases, as even an accidental violation of a member country’s airspace can cause an escalation.
