A volunteer from Finland was killed in the fight against Russia in Ukraine.
This was reported by Yle with reference to the Turun Sanomat newspaper, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to the publication, a 20-year-old man, a resident of Turku, left Finland several months ago to join the Ukrainian army as a volunteer.

The Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to Yle that, according to their own information, a Finnish citizen was either killed or missing in eastern Ukraine on Sunday. The ministry declined to provide any further details. The head of the ministry’s consular department, Jussi Tanner, said that the Finnish authorities are in contact with their Ukrainian counterparts about the case.

In January, the ministry said that it believed that about 150 Finnish citizens have been voluntarily fighting with Ukrainian forces since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

“The exact number is unknown because we don’t track Finns’ travel abroad in such detail,” Tanner told Yle on Tuesday.

He added that the ministry is aware of more than a dozen cases of Finnish volunteers killed or missing in Ukraine.
